How Much Does a Website Cost in Nigeria?

Ask three agencies what a website costs in Nigeria and you will get three very different numbers - not because someone is overcharging, but because 'a website' can mean a one-page profile or a full ecommerce platform. This guide breaks down what you are really paying for so you can compare quotes fairly.

What actually drives the price

Almost every quote comes down to a handful of variables. Understand these and you can predict roughly where your project will land before you speak to anyone.

  • Number of unique page templates - not pages. Ten pages sharing one template cost far less than five bespoke layouts.
  • Custom design versus a template. Original design work takes research, iteration and revisions.
  • Functionality: payments, bookings, logins, dashboards and search each add build and testing time.
  • Integrations with payment gateways, CRMs, inventory systems or accounting software.
  • Content: whether you supply copy, photography and product data, or the agency produces it.
  • Ongoing needs - hosting, maintenance, security updates and SEO are usually separate from the build.

The four common project types

Brochure site: a handful of pages presenting who you are and how to reach you. The fastest and least expensive option, and often enough for a young service business.

Marketing site: multiple service pages, location pages, a blog and structured data, built to win search traffic rather than just exist.

Ecommerce store: products, variants, delivery zones, naira payments, order management. Cost scales with catalogue complexity, not just product count.

Web application: dashboards, portals, booking engines or internal tools. These are software projects and are quoted like software - by scope and integration surface.

Costs people forget to budget for

The build is one line item. A realistic annual budget also includes the domain, hosting, SSL, professional email, content updates, security patching and analytics review. Skipping maintenance is the most common reason a Nigerian business website looks abandoned within a year.

How to get an accurate quote

Write a one-page brief before you contact anyone: what your business does, who the site is for, the three actions you want visitors to take, examples of sites you like, whether you need payments or logins, and your target launch date. Agencies quoting from the same brief produce comparable numbers.

Frequently asked

Is it cheaper to use a website builder?

Upfront, usually yes. The trade-offs are performance, ownership and flexibility: builder sites are often slower on Nigerian mobile networks and harder to extend when you need payments, integrations or custom logic.

Should I pay monthly or one-off?

One-off for the build plus a monthly retainer for hosting, security and updates is the most common structure, and it keeps the site healthy after launch.
