Payments: give people every option
Paystack and Flutterwave both support cards, bank transfers and USSD. Offering more than one route matters because card success rates fluctuate. Show the total in naira early, keep the checkout to a single screen where possible, and always send an order confirmation the customer can screenshot.
Delivery logic beats a flat fee
Delivery inside Lagos is not the same as delivery to Enugu. Zone-based pricing, a pickup option and honest delivery windows reduce both abandoned carts and support messages after the sale.
Trust signals do the selling
A visible phone number and WhatsApp link, a clear returns policy, real product photography, delivery timelines and genuine customer reviews. Nigerian shoppers are cautious about paying upfront, and these details are what settle it.
Build for a phone on mobile data
Compress product images aggressively, lazy load below the fold, avoid heavy sliders and keep the critical path light. Every extra second before the product loads costs orders.
Plan the back office
Someone has to fulfil orders. Decide early how stock, order status, refunds and dispatch will be handled, and whether the site should sync with an existing inventory or accounting system.
